In the past month, Équiterre spoke out where environmental issues directly intersect with everyday life: the cost of living, food, energy and climate, and the upcoming provincial election.
From Earth Day to our Annual General Meeting (AGM), April was also marked by moments of mobilization and democracy.
At our AGM, our members heard about the main orientations of Équiterre's new strategic plan, as well as an overview of our activities in the past year. If you have not yet had the chance to read our 2025 Annual Report, you will find a link to it further down in this email.
The appetizers served at our AGM provided an opportunity to showcase Équiterre's recently-launched Planetary Health on the Menu initiative, which encourages event organizers and caterers to serve nutritious, local and sustainable food at their events.
This newsletter looks back at the positions, media interventions and key moments that shaped the month of April.
The Vire au vert coalition of 24 environmental and civil society organizations, is outlining its expectations and priorities for Quebec’s upcoming electoral campaign.
Daniel Rotman, Executive Director of Équiterre, emphasizes that the transition must be rooted in people’s everyday realities. Even in the face of challenges such as grocery bills, “the transition remains the solution.”
The episode debates whether direct tax cuts are the best way for the government to help, or if that money could be better used to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Charles-Edouard Têtu, Équiterre's analyst on climate and energy policy, weighs in.
To justify delaying this flagship Quebec climate target, the government cites the “trade war” and an “uncertain economic climate.” For Sortons le gaz coalition, it’s poor energy transition planning.
Is the political class turning away from the environmental cause? Véronique Darveau discusses the issue with Marc-André Viau, our Director of Government Relations, and Étienne Leblanc, a climate and environment journalist.
A look back at our Annual General Meeting
On Thursday, April 30, Équiterre members were invited to gather for our Annual General Meeting. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us.
The meeting was an opportunity to renew our Board of Directors, present the year’s highlights and an overview of our new strategic plan. Thank you to all the candidates for helping bring this democratic moment to life. You can view the election results online.
It was also an important moment to recognize Colleen Thorpe as a new honourary member of Équiterre, and to acknowledge Martine Michaud’s legacy gift, a generous gesture that underscores the importance of planned giving in supporting Équiterre's mission over the long term.
