After a summer of heat waves, smog and floods, the importance of adaptation measures has never been so clear. We need to think differently about how we adapt to the impacts of climate change.

As our elected officials get back to work after the summer break, Équiterre’s government relations team is continuing to push our governments towards ambitious measures. What can you do to help? On September 27, come out to walk with us in Montreal and Quebec City to demand climate action.

Wishing you a nice September and a good back to school.

8 things to watch for this fall

With municipal elections and lots of talk about projects of national interest, fall 2025 will be a busy one. It’s a key period to see if our governments are really invested in taking action for the environment. Have a look at these 8 topics to follow this fall.

Agriculture

Are the farmlands near you under threat? Come talk about it!

Urban sprawl, speculation and land grabbing are constant threats to the farmland on which Quebec’s farmers grow our food.

With the Alliance SaluTERRE, we’re heading to 5 regions in Quebec to talk with local residents about the specific challenges in their areas, and to discuss what we can do about it as we head into municipal elections this fall. Every field that’s lost is a threat to our future. Decisions made at the municipal level are so important and we all have a role to play, so if we’re coming to a region near you, please register to join us (in French)!

Food

Healthy and quick lunches for back to school

As the pace picks up with back to school, time and energy are sometimes in short supply when it comes to preparing dinner and lunch boxes. We’ve got a solution for you: prepare big batches ahead of time for quick dinners and delicious leftover lunches! Our Shop Smarter, Eat Better website is full of easy and healthy recipes that can be prepared in big batches.

Back to school is also a great time to teach kids about healthy eating and about local and environmentally responsible food. La marmite éducative, our food education platform, has over 500 resources for teachers that are simple and free to use. 84% of educators who use the platform recommend it to others, so if you know of a teacher who may be interested, please pass it on!

Mobility

What opportunities could open up if cars took up less space?

If Quebec drivers were to make some changes in how they get around, our quality of life could improve and a lot of money could be saved, according to a new model commissioned by Équiterre. By reducing the number of cars on the road, choosing smaller models, and continuing to electrify the fleet, we could not only reduce GHG emissions, but also reduce congestion, collectively save billions of dollars and save enough energy to decarbonize part of the agricultural sector. Sounds pretty good, right?

How Much Land Does a Man Need? - Martin Veyron

On his small plot of Siberian land, Pacôme is content to provide for his family... until an insatiable desire for expansion drives him on a tragic quest.

A philosophical graphic tale with contemporary relevance reveals how the thirst for possession can lead to the loss of what is essential. An essential read, both tender and relentless.
