At Équiterre, we’re concerned about how climate disinformation is undermining our work to educate and mobilize towards climate action. With a federal election approaching at some point soon, there’s more and more disinformation circulating about climate policies, blurring the facts and creating confusion. It’s especially alarming that well-funded groups, opinion leaders and companies are contributing to disinformation - intentionally spreading misleading information to protect their economic interests.
We can’t let disinformation create uncertainty on climate science and climate action. But what can you do? You can send our pre-written email to the government, calling for better regulation on disinformation.
You can also help counter disinformation by learning about climate issues from trusted sources. To help you feel confident to discuss climate action with your friends and family, our experts have prepared content on four topics that have recently been attacked with disinformation:
Carbon tax – does it really increase the cost of living?
Emissions cap – will it help or hinder the economy?
Clean Electricity Regulations – will they increase our rates?
Electric school buses – can we really electrify Quebec's entire fleet?
