So many victories on the mobility front this past month! The 3rd Link highway project was abandoned, electric car manufacturers must take responsibility for their batteries, and Quebec has increased its ambition on auto electrification. Great news to energize us for the month of May! We’re so encouraged to see these systemic changes underway, but there is still so much work to be done to address the automotive industry’s destructive practices.

Some good progress in the fight against pesticides
Victory! Progress has taken time in the long fought battle against pesticides, which Équiterre has been heavily invested in. But good news! The provincial government will soon be proposing new regulatory amendments in order to better limit pesticide use.
It’s good news because regulating pesticide use is essential to better protect our health and our environment. Our analyst, Nadine Bachand, who has been working on the issue for over 20 years, explains what the changes entail.
Bike Month - Replacing a car with an electric bike, how could it work?
The benefits: There are many! Financial, practical and of course, environmental. Depending on your situation, an electric bike could respond very well to your needs.
Good to know: Electric bikes can be a great alternative to solo driving. It’s a value-added active transportation option, allowing a wide range of people to cover distances more quickly and easily.
The expectation: In response to the Premier’s promise to have a societal debate about Quebec’s energy future last fall, we’ve been calling on the government to hold this collective discussion through the BAPE, in an inclusive and transparent manner.
The disappointment: Minister Fitzgibbon has just decided otherwise. Far from respecting its commitment to hold a societal debate, the government is proposing a restricted and opaque consultation. We’re not happy and we’re not alone.
